 Never has it been more important for public and independent schools administrators to integrate school security with their business and educational strategies. One only needs to view a national news outlet to recognize the disturbing increase in school related violence that occurs on a weekly basis. The Safe Schools Initiative and other government and independent “violence prevention” endeavors address guns and drugs on campuses as well as the response to emergency and crisis situations. Many times where these initiatives fail is by not looking at the more comprehensive picture of integrating the physical, operational, and cultural aspects of the individual school with proven violence and crime prevention techniques. This is not a complicated thing to accomplish, but is essential when working toward an effective, cost efficient secure school environment. There is no such thing as “One Size Fits All” in school security.
 Risk Management Associates (RMA) has over 19 years of consulting experience in conducting security vulnerability assessments. Within those 19 years, we have been responsible for identifying security vulnerabilities and recommending the most practical methods to reduce risks in all levels of educational institutions. We have assisted schools and school systems both in urban and rural environments and with large and small student populations. In each of these projects, our goal was to reach a level of security that was consistent with the educational values of the school while balancing the reality of their security needs.
